Hello Lovelies,

I’m very pleased with how the background people in the first panel turned out. I tried returning to the “blue” technique I used in the prologue, and I think it worked well.

By the next upload, which will be in two weeks on Tuesday, August 21st, I will have taken my first big test. Can’t wait to slay this academic adversary. Wish me luck!

Uh, she's not confused. You're just prejudice.

There’s a strict “No Girls Allowed” sign that Bob hasn’t put up yet.

This is what cultural bias gets you, she's in a nation that is under the impression that only males can do all the "real" work while females are only to be relegated to more domestic chores.

To be fair she hardly looks the type to win a trial of close quarters combat. Let's not all immediately jump on the "oh it's because she's a woman" trope.

@VadanDrumist: I completely agree with you.

As readers, we tend to forget that the background and supporting characters do not have the same information we have. This often leads people to judge harshly any character that does not worship or immediately see the greatness of the main character(s).

Also, what is the difference between us assuming that this character is sexist and (the possibility of) this character assuming she is unfit for combat merely for being a woman?

Maybe he thinks she's unfit for combat because she's got noodly little arms... like himself. XD Anyway, whatever his reason or lack thereof, I know that look he's got in the last panel. It can be a bit hard to be on the receiving end of that one. It'll be better if she can laugh it off. Then again, it's not like his words are really inaccurate, considering she didn't hear one half of the requirements.

Anyway, I love what the guard's wearing. I've been looking up 14th and 15th century clothes, they're so much fun!

Good luck on your test, Ms. Author!

I really like the monochrome crowd technique, it's good to see a reappearance. And heh, I wonder what this dude is thinking. The previous candidate was a lord, after all.
